The Tennessee Titans ended up selecting nine players in the 2022 NFL Draft, let’s take a look at who they drafted, where they came from, and how they might fit into the Titans plans for this coming season…
1. Treylon Burks, WR-Arkansas (18th, 1st Rd)
This is a clear replacement plan for the recently traded AJ Brown and Burks will have a great opportunity to come in right away and make a significant impact on this passing offense for Ryan Tannehill and company. It’s a lot to put on a young man but when Robert Woods gets healthy this should end up being a really good selection for the Titans. 2021 Stats: 66 rec, 1,104 yards, 11 TD.
2. Roger McCreary, DB-Auburn (35th, 2nd Rd)
This is a great insurance policy for 2021 first round selection, Caleb Farley who was recovering from back surgery last off-season and in case he has any trouble McCreary is a good young player to slot in behind him who should get plenty of chances to compete during training camp. He’s also capable of playing inside or outside at the corner spot. 2021 Stats: 49 tackles, two for loss, sack, two INT, 14 passes defended.
3. Nicholas Petit-Frere, OL-Ohio State (69th, 3rd Rd)
He’s a guy who offers depth along the offensive line and who will compete for the starting right tackle spot coming into training camp with young Dillon Radunz and he can also play left tackle if need be. There is said to be some holes in his game like pass protection against edge rushers who offer elite speed/power combination, we’ll have to see how he fares when he gets to camp.
4. Malik Willis, QB-Liberty (86th, 3rd Rd)
I really like this pick for the Titans, you didn’t have to use any of your top three picks to grab a freakish athletic QB with a rocket arm who some thought might be the first QB off the draft board and I’m totally okay that they moved up to grab him. 2021 Stats: 2,875 yards passing, 61% completion %, 27 TD, 12 INT.
5. Hassan Haskins, RB-Michigan (131st, 4th Rd)
At 6’1 220lbs Haskins is the type of downhill, physical runner that the Titans LOVE and he should compete right away with Dontrell Hillard for touches behind Derrick Henry. 2021 Stats: 270 carries, 1,327 yards, 20 TD, 18 catches, 131 yards.
6. Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE-Maryland (143rd, 4th Rd)
Tight ends are always a developmental position coming out of the draft but with Tennessee acquiring Austin Hooper in the offseason there isn’t an immediate need for this young TE to come in and have to put up numbers. The Titans view him in a similar mold to Jonnu Smith who can break tackles when he’s got the ball in his hands and he stands 6’2 244lbs. 2021 Stats: 52 receptions, 447 yards, five TDs.
7. Kyle Philips, WR-UCLA (163rd, 5th Rd)
The selection of Philips gives Tennessee a young option at the slot receiver position as they look to replace Chester Rogers. The Titans will hope he’ll develop as a QB security blanket who can be shifty, tough to cover, and a big target on third downs/the red zone. 2021 Stats: 59 receptions, 739 yards, 10 TD.
8. Theo Jackson, DB-Tennessee (204th, 6th Rd)
The Nashville native had to have been HYPED to be selected by his hometown team but this was no charity pick, Jackson can play and earned second Team All-SEC honors last season. He’ll add depth to a young, talented secondary but if he makes this team it’ll probably be as a core special teams player. 2021 Stats: 78 tackles, nine for loss, 1.5 sacks, INT, 11 passes defended.
9. Chance Campbell, LB-Ole Miss (219th, 7th Rd)
Campbell transferred from Maryland and proved that he can play and contribute at a high level against the best football competition college football has to offer. He’ll provide depth at the linebacker position but much like Jackson he’ll probably make his biggest impact on special teams. 2021 Stats: 109 tackles, 12.5 for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles.
