COVID has clearly impacted all our lives in one way or another. Well, it really hit home over the holidays for the Pankey family & the Rhea County Community, when Coach Roy Pankey was diagnosed & hospitalized with COVID on December 23rd.
Roy has been a staple in the basketball community all around Southeast Tennessee. Coach has been hosting camps, youth leagues, and coaching AAU teams for decades. His impact goes far beyond basketball. He has helped kids all throughout the area not only improve their game but improve their mindset and outlook on life. Roy has truly helped kids create paths for themselves, that they may not have had otherwise.
Roy Pankey is the type of coach who builds each player individually, but emphasizes the importance of helping one another and truly building a team. You can see that with the way he has created friendship inside a great community. He is a man of faith and also just a fantastic human being. When you ask Roy if he has kids, he will tell you he has 200+…
He was released from the hospital on January 18th. All that time in the hospital and battling this virus is going to be a challenge. Roy and his family need some help in these times. Hospital bills pile up and recovery will take some time. So, if this is a time when you can donate and give back to a great man and his family please do so. Any little bit helps.
What better way to help raise some funds and help a community than a 3 on 3 basketball tournament this Saturday 1/22!
Head over to https://www.facebook.com/rheacountycommunitycenter to find out more about the tournament and Roy’s weekend. Below is the tournament info and other ways you can donate. So share with anyone who wants to come out and play some ball this Saturday night and help a wonderful coach!
