Congratulations for surviving the most difficult, for most, week during the fantasy football season with six teams on a bye this past week.
Injuries are and will continue to be a thing throughout this fantasy football season but hopefully, our studs will be on the mend and able to play this week.
This week we’ve got two teams on a bye so it’ll be a little easier to navigate.
Here are the teams who will be off this week: Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders.
Here’s how I see things this week for players to pick up.
As a rule of thumb, I won’t suggest any player who is over 50% rostered so you might have a realistic shot at actually acquiring them.
Quarterbacks
Daniel Jones, NYG at KC MNF (28% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to be one of the worst defenses in the NFL and they currently rank 31st against opposing quarterbacks and hopefully, the Giants will be getting healthy with Shepard, Toney, and Golladay back in the lineup this week.
Carson Wentz, IND vs. TEN (22% Rostered, ESPN)
Surprisingly, Wentz has been one of the more consistent players at the QB position with only one week under 17 fantasy points. Conversely, his ceiling hasn’t been super high with only two games over 20 points with a high of 22.5. Despite the Titans holding down the Chiefs offense, I think it’ll be a different story this week where KC didn’t stay committed to the run despite the type of defense TN was playing the Colts will stay committed to the run with Jonathan Taylor and that should open things up for Wentz. The Titans remain a good options for opposing QBs as they rank 27th in that category.
Running Backs
Alexander Mattison, MIN vs. DAL (43% Rostered, ESPN)
With as many teams that were on a bye last week, it seems like teams have had to make the difficult choice in dropping Mattison which may now be your gain. If he’s available in your league don’t walk, run to the waiver wire and grab him because as we’ve seen when Dalvin Cook misses time he’s an RB1 caliber option.
Kenneth Gainwell, PHI at DET (26% Rostered, ESPN)
While I don’t love any aspect of the Eagles running the football if you’re in need of someone who’s going to be in line to get work it seems like Gainwell should be your guy. Miles Sanders exited last week’s game with an ankle injury that may linger for at least a couple of weeks and with that, it should be the Kenneth Gainwell show. In addition, Philly is playing Detriot who allows the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Wide Receivers
Randall Cobb, GB at ARI (5% Rostered, ESPN)
The surprising news that Davante Adams has tested positive for COVID-19 along with Allen Lazard being deemed a close contact to Adams as he’s unvaccinated has left the Green Bay Packers a little less explosive heading into a Thursday night showdown with the Arizona Cardinals but it’ll be the next man up for the Pack and that man will now need to be Randall Cobb. There are others the Packers could rely upon as well like rookie Amari Rogers, E-Q St. Brown, Bobby Tonyan just to name a few. Rodgers wanted to have him back here this season, he got him, and now he’ll have to rely on him on Thursday night in a game they’re going to have to score to keep up with Arizona.
Rashod Bateman, BAL, BYE (19% Rostered, ESPN)
I understand that the Ravens are on a bye this week but I think rookie Rashod Bateman is about to pop off. I think most will allow him to slip through the waiver cracks in most leagues because he’s on a bye so I wouldn’t waste a claim on him but after waivers open up I would go scoop him up if you have open roster spots on your bench.
Tight End
Cole Kmet, CHI vs. SF (18% Rostered, ESPN)
Kmet hasn’t boomed yet in any game per se but I feel as though he’s been more involved as of late with Justin Fields under center and it’s only a matter of time until he gets into the end zone. Over the previous three games, Kmet has received 15 targets, caught 11 balls for 114 yards, and had no touchdowns. As I mentioned, it seems as though it’s just a matter of time until he finds pay dirt.
