The UTC Mocs football team came into their game with East Tennessee State Saturday at 2-3 with a couple of tough-luck losses including their game last Saturday at VMI. ETSU came into the game 6-0 and ranked 10th among FCS schools but that didn’t scare UTC as they knocked off the previously undefeated Bucs 21-16.
The Mocs accumulated over 230 yards on the ground which controlled the game for most of the way along with the defense coming up big with four more turnovers which gives them 16 through their first six games.
In the first half, a forced fumble by the Chattanooga defense led to a Tyrell Price eight-yard score to give us a 7-0 UTC halftime lead.
There was much more to talk about in the second half as both offenses got going, a little bit. Ailym Ford broke loose for a 49-yard touchdown scamper to give the Mocs a 14-3 lead.

However, that didn’t last but a minute because the Bucs Jacob Saylors broke off a 54 yard run of his own for a score to make it 14-10. Fortunately, that’s as close as ETSU would get.
The Bucs did have chances as they went for it on 4th down twice, once from the Chattanooga 10 on a 4th and two where QB Tyler Riddle fumbled the snap and it was recovered by the Mocs.

Then, in the 4th quarter Devonsha Maxwell sacked Riddle to stunt another ETSU drive.
Speaking of Maxwell, he racked up 26 yards on four sacks and he moved to 3rd all-time in Chattanooga Mocs history passing Josh Williams.
Mocs QB Cole Copeland had a very modest day passing just 8/14 for 82 yards through the air with a pick but running back Tyrell Price had a big day rushing 13 times for 98 yards and two scores including this one for 58 yards.
