CHATTANOOGA—The 19th-ranked Chattanooga Mocs took full advantage of the week off. The squad practiced through Thursday before a long weekend of rest to recharge for Southern Conference play. That starts this Saturday with a visit from Western Carolina.
There’s a lot going on Saturday for the 1:30 p.m., scheduled start time. It’s UTC Family Weekend. It’s Band Day with more than 500 area high school band students visiting to play with the Marching Mocs. But the biggest news of all…
OK, maybe we undersold “a lot”. It happens.
The first 1,000 fans get a rally towel courtesy of Dr Pepper and all fans are encouraged to wear white. Regular tailgating includes the fun kid zone area with inflatables, photo opportunities and other games along with visits from Scrappy and the spirits squads.
The game itself is important for both teams. The Mocs look to get off to a good start in the quest for an eight Southern Conference Championship. The Catamounts will be trying to avert an 0-2 start in the league after a narrow loss two weeks ago to Samford.
It’s a battle of defense vs. offense. The Mocs limit opponents to less than 300 yards total offense (298.0) and 20 points per game (19.3), while the Catamounts average 33.0 points and 553.7 yards (212.7 rush/341.0 pass) against FCS competition.
