Football fans got their first taste of High School ball Thursday evening, as seven teams huddled at Finley Stadium for the first of three nights at the High School Football Jamboree.
Hixson, Sale Creek, Silverdale, Signal Mountain, Marion County, Chattanooga Christain School, and East Ridge were the teams on display for the evening, all with eager players and fans trying to get a taste of the football season.
The first matchup of the night was Hixson and Sale Creek. Hixson started strong by making their way into the end-zone quickly but did not have much production after as Sale Creek’s defense held them off. Sale Creek was quiet offensively until the last seconds of the contest, scoring a rushing TD but a failed two-point conversion had them fall to Hixson, 8-6.
Signal Mountain and Silverdale were the second game of the night. Signal Mountain is a relatively young team that showed against Silverdale’s experience. Signal Mountain did however do a good job of holding back Silverdale but the Seahawks took this one, 7-0.
Game three of the evening saw Silverdale take on Hixson. Silverdale mirrored the previous battle. The Seahawks struck early but couldn’t get much going after the fact. Lucky for them, Hixson struggled offensively throughout the bout leading to another 7-0 victory.
Marion County then took the field against Silverdale for game four of the night, and immediately Marion County displayed their intense run game strength. Silverdale had no defensive answers for Marion, falling short 14-0.
Signal Mountain returned to face the highly anticipated CCS Chargers for game five. The Chargers have a lot of firepower to work with this year as they head into the season with their largest roster yet, including Boo Carter who already has an offer from Tennessee. CCS was not shy about showing off their new power as the rush-heavy offense led them to a 27-0 victory, the largest victory margin of the evening.
Game six was perhaps the most anticipated meeting of the night as Marion County took the field against East Ridge. Marion continued to build off their running strength established in their previous matchup with Sale Creek. Similarly, East Ridge struggled to keep up with Marion and fell short, 13-0.
The seventh and final game of the night saw a duel between CCS and East Ridge. East Ridge initially shocked the Chargers on the first play from scrimmage with a 50+ yard touchdown rush complete with jukes and spins. Fortunately for CCS fans, East Ridge could not capitalize on the extra point attempt which jolted the Charger offense into a bold rushing game leading them to take the lead moments later. The rest of the matchup was marked by defensive battles and penalties, most of which going against East Ridge leading to a 7-6 CCS victory.
The pre-season high school football fun will continue through the weekend with more exciting matchups. Tickets for the jamboree are available at Finley Stadium and the respective schools for $10.
