After 67 years of storied tradition at Bob Evans Stadium on Wayne Turner Field, the Rams played their final game on that home field Friday.
Faces that haven’t been seen around the school for years, all came back for the momentous occasion to celebrate the times that used to be. Players and coaches who contributed to the school’s history, all made their appearance to be acknowledged at the end of this era.
At halftime, the family of Bob Evans and Ernie McCarson were acknowledged along with the players who were able to make it back for this special moment.
Also celebrated was the 1997 state championship team coached by Wayne Turner, who was also honored and given a plaque at halftime for his contributions to the team over the years. Turner retired in 2020 after a playoff loss, ending his 30-year career but the mark he left on the community will last forever.
Mr. Football finalist Josh Jackson made sure that all alumni in attendance were made proud in their final game on the field. He tossed three touchdown passes in the game and the Ram Train was running it up 33 to 0 on York Institute by the break. The Rams forced a running clock and the time in the last game dwindled.
The new era of the Rams is officially here as they look to capture their second state championship. Tyner will face the Riverside Panthers in the State Championship. Riverside holds a record of 12-2 on the season. The game will be played in Chattanooga in the Blue Cross Bowl at Finley Stadium, at 3 o’clock on December 3rd.
