The Adrian Peterson experience in Nashville was sort lived as he was released on Tuesday after only playing three games in which he carried the ball 27 times for 82 yards, and a touchdown. He simply didn’t look like the AP of old and the Titans felt confident they had seen enough from their other backs that they could move on from the 36-year-old.
All together on Tuesday, Tennessee really shook things up as they totaled 13 roster moves which included the active roster, the practice squad, and injured reserve. Here’s a look at what they did.
- Former UTC Defensive back Buster Skrine, running back Dontrell Hilliard, and outside linebacker John Simon have all been signed to the team’s active roster.
Skrine, the former Moc, has played in 152 games in his career and has played for four different franchises along the way. He began his career with the Cleveland Browns (2011-2014), then to the New York Jets (2015-2018), next to the Chicago Bears (2019-2020), and finally he spent some time in San Francisco playing for the 49ers this season. Over his 11 years in the league he’s recorded nine interceptions, 85 passes defended, 573 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 11 QB hits.
- Defensive back Chris Jackson and receiver Marcus Johnson have been moved to Injured Reserve.
With Jackson heading to IR it’s good to see that the team is bringing in a veteran like Buster Skrine and he’s got to be hyped up about the opportunity having played for the Chattanooga Mocs just down the road here in the Scenic City.
- Receiver Golden Tate, running back Rodney Smith, wide-out Austin Mack and defensive lineman Kevin Strong have all been signed to the Titans practice squad.
With the Marcus Johnson news the move to bring Golden Tate in and get him up to speed on the practice squad was a smart move by Tennessee as they continue to thin out within the pass-catcher room week after week.
Tate has spent time with four NFL teams over his 11+ year career beginning with the Seattle Seahawks (2010-2013), the Detroit Lions (2014-2018), the Philadelphia Eagles for part of 2018, and then to the New York Giants (2019-2020) he has not played in the league this season. During his time in the league he’s been a very productive wide receiver and was elected to the Pro Bowl one season back in 2014. Over the years he’s amassed 695 catches, 8,278 yards, and 46 touchdowns through the air.
- Wide-out Chris Rowland and defensive lineman Niles Scott have been released from the Titans practice squad.
- Fullback Khari Blasingame has been placed on the “Designated for Return from Injured Reserve” list, which means he’s able to return to practice at this time. This designation triggers a 21-day window for Blasingame to practice, and he will not count against the 53-man roster until he’s officially activated from Injured Reserve.
