The NFL bye-weeks are officially here, much like the cold winter months ahead you’ll be left out in that cold if you haven’t properly prepared. Now, there isn’t much preparation you can do for Russell Wilson mangling his finger on Thursday Night Football last week, and don’t forget the old injury bug, biting basically the entire Giants offense., yikes…
As a rule of thumb, I won’t suggest any player who is over 50% rostered so you might have a realistic shot at actually acquiring them.
Let’s see who we can help you find off the waiver wire this week with four teams on their bye week in the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and SF 49ers. This means we’ll be looking to replace players like Kyle Pitts, Cordarrelle Patterson, Alvin Kamara, and Deebo Samuel.
Quarterbacks
Taylor Heinicke, WSH vs. KC (13% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)
After a dud last week against a good defense in the Saints he and the Washington Football Team will take on a bad defense in the Kansas City Chiefs this week and I like him for a nice little rebound this week.
Trevor Lawrence, JAX vs. MIA (43% Rostered, ESPN)
Lawrence had his second-best game as a pro last week against a skeptical Titans defense and this week he gets another chance to put up a solid performance when he faces the Miami Dolphins. He continues to improve as a passer with his accuracy and decision making and with that we’re beginning to see the confidence grow for the young signal-caller.
Running Backs
Devontae Booker, NYG vs. LAR (4% Rostered, ESPN)
Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports New York Giants Saquon Barkley was seen with crutches and a walking boot after the game on Sunday after he rolled his ankle badly in week five and will very likely miss at least week six. This is where Booker factors in, now, I don’t love Booker here because the entire Giants offense is either out or very questionable but if you need someone who will get some volume I would consider him as someone who will run and catch the football.
Rhamondre Stevenson, NE vs. DAL (6% Rostered, ESPN)
Another injury to talk about here as Patriots starter Damien Harris battled chest and rib injuries and if he’s in line to miss time then it’ll be the rookie’s time to shine as the man for New England. Last week, Stevenson received 11 carries for just 23 yards but with the potential of an increased role why not take a shot, it’s not the best shot but it’s a shot with a guy who could get more of a workload and that’s what we’re looking for is volume here.
Alex Collins, SEA at PIT (42% Rostered, ESPN)
This one depends solely on whether or not Chris Carson is able to come back this week or not from his neck injury, he was a game-time decision on Thursday night and with extended rest, you would think he would have a better chance to play this week but we’ll have to wait and see. If Carson is unable to suit up again it would continue to be the Alex Collins show and I would look at him as an RB2 or flex consideration with bye weeks beginning this week.
Darrel Williams, KC at WSH (8% Rostered, ESPN)
It was a sprained MCL that knocked starting Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire out of their week five contest and will probably keep him sidelined for the near future which means that the next man up is Darrell Williams who will get the work for Kansas City. The Chiefs like to rely on him near the goal-line, he’s a willing and able pass-catcher, and he’ll be relied on much more moving forward, you should absolutely make him one of your top priorities.
Wide Receivers
Mecole Hardman, KC at WSH (42% Rostered, ESPN)
Hardman is coming off his most consistent game of the season in which he received a to of looks from Patrick Mahomes during a loss to Buffalo on Sunday night in which he received 12 targets and hauled in nine catches for 76 yards. In addition, there’s also another potential injury here with Tyreek Hill who is apparently now dealing with an undisclosed knee injury which would hamper him moving forward.
Tight End
Evan Engram, NYG vs. LAR (35% Rostered, ESPN)
With basically the entire starting offense either out or questionable for the New York Giants, someone’s gotta catch the ball and we know how athletic Engram is, give him a shot this week if you need a bye week plug-in or a streamer.
